Call for Papers
Inspired by Bradbury’s foretoken account of an anti-intellectual era, Dark Futures in Projection invites the submission of long and short papers on research in the following topics:
- Ray Bradbury’s and Truffaut’s Fahrenheit 451, as well as any adaptation of the novel to another medium (radio dramatizations, comic books, video games…);
- other dystopian accounts, conveyed in any possible contexts and forms of art (perspectives on literature and film will be particularly welcome);
- theoretical reflections on the concept of dystopia and its manifestations, and especially on the relevance of dystopian thinking for the understanding of our times;
- reflections on the concept of “adaptation” (especially, but not exclusively, from novel to film), bearing on the field of utopian / dystopian visions.
Abstracts – max. 250 words – for short (10 min.) and long (20 min.) papers presented in English should be sent by 30 September 2013 to:

Dark Futures in Projection is organized by the “Mapping Dreams” research group of CETAPS – Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (University of Porto and Nova University of Lisbon), with the collaboration of CITAR – Research Center For Science and Technology in the Arts (Catholic University, Porto).
